Are you interested in learning more about how composting works at school and possibly for your home? Would you like for your children to have a better understanding of how food is grown? Please join the Green Team on Monday June 11th at the Claypit Hill School compost bins to see the results of a year's worth of composting, and help us move the fresh material to the Claypit Garden. Everyone is welcome! Please bring a shovel and a wheelbarrow if you can. Green Team meetings are held every second Monday of the month at 4 pm. Come and see what we're all about, what we are working on and have planned, and share your thoughts with us! Help us organize Earth Day which is 29 April 2012 + help us find alternatives for polystyrene trays in lunchrooms + Join our vibrant group of can-do people and green the schools and Wayland! Old News 8-12 August: Green Team and volunteers build compost bins at Claypit and Middle School. DEP composters move to Happy Hollow. 19 July: Board of Health approves composting at Claypit and Middle School. 19 July: Fixed leaks in irrigation system in MS Garden. All harvests go to Parmenter Food Pantry and local shelters. The Green Team met with the Board of Public Works on Monday, April 30, 2012, to stress the continued need for recycling pickup at our fields and parks. Soon after the issue was resolved and we'll have a recycling program! Read the article in the Patch for more details. The Town Crier reports here, and more pictures here. After 2 weeks of training, Happy Hollow students are now avidly recycling every little scrap that can be recycled. Great work, everyone! By the end of this month Claypit Hill and Middle School will have put ONE TON of food scraps into the Compost Bins (instead of the incinerator)! Thank you to all involved!
